We are now looking for a Principal Data Scientist to join us to solve some of the most challenging and complex business problems in the retail industry. You will be instrumental in steering the direction of data science in Coop and contribute to our journey to become a truly data-driven company. We’re currently in a very exciting phase, where data science is recognized as a key strategic enabler to reach our ambition. With our 1.9 million members and more than 2TB of monthly transactions, we have one of the most exciting data foundations in the retail industry.
We work with a variety of problems, using different types of data science techniques, such as recommendation systems, image recognition, time series forecasting, and optimization problems. Currently, we are utilising the best of Google Cloud Platform & Azure, and you’re free to use the tooling of your choice to help us keep building our platform. As a Principal Data Scientist at CoopX, believe your day to day will look somewhat like this:
- Work hands-on to solve some of our most complex problems, using sophisticated data science models
- Contribute to steering the overall direction of data science across teams and the development of Coop’s data science framework
- With your expertise level, you tend to take a lead role within your field and acts as a go-to resource for those around you
- Work alongside other data scientists/analysts as well as engineers, product managers and designers to create products that change our customer’s lives
- Assist in mentorship and recruitment related activities
We believe this could be you:
- Extensive background within data science, with hands-on experience with predictive modelling, recommendation systems, optimization solutions
- Solid knowledge of Python and SQL (we use BigQuery a lot)
- Experience with a broad base of Python data science libraries and frameworks (e.g. pandas, pyspark, scikit-learn, XGBoost, etc.)
- Solid, hands-on experience with cloud (we run on Azure and GCP) and container technologies such as Docker
- Experience as an ML Engineer or similar building, deploying and running models and large scale real-time ML systems
- Pragmatic in your way of working and you find solutions to problems even if there are no pre-written answers
- Passionate about data and keep up to date on the latest development within data science methodologies and tooling
- You understand the business and how to create value with data in retail and have the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical people
- Experience from retail is a bonus, but not a requirement
We also think you will need the following:
- 6+ years of experience in data science (however, we are more interested in what you have done rather than years of experience)
- Masters degree or PhD in relevant field (Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operational Research, Statistics, Mathematics, etc.)
- Full professional proficiency in English, both spoken and written (Norwegian is a plus, but not a requirement)
